Parenteral immunization with live respiratory syncytial virus is blocked in seropositive cotton rats.
Seropositive cotton rats cannot be immunized by intramuscular inoculation of live respiratory syncytial virus. Passively administered antiserum was shown to effect the immunosuppression. By contrast, the presence of serum antibody did not block immunization by the intranasal route.
متن کاملDevelopment of Acquired Immunity following Repeated Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infections in Cotton Rats
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections occur every year worldwide. Most infants are infected with RSV by one year of age and are reinfected because immune responses after the first infection are too weak to protect against subsequent infections. In the present study, immune responses against RSV were investigated in order to obtain a better understanding of repetitive RSV infections in co...
متن کاملRespiratory Syncytial Virus Fusion Glycoprotein Expressed in Insect Cells Form Protein Nanoparticles That Induce Protective Immunity in Cotton Rats
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is an important viral agent causing severe respiratory tract disease in infants and children as well as in the elderly and immunocompromised individuals. The lack of a safe and effective RSV vaccine represents a major unmet medical need. RSV fusion (F) surface glycoprotein was modified and cloned into a baculovirus vector for efficient expression in Sf9 insect ...
متن کاملMechanism of antibody-mediated viral clearance in immunotherapy of respiratory syncytial virus infection of cotton rats.
Antibody-mediated clearance of respiratory syncytial virus from cotton rat pulmonary tissues occurs in the absence of complement and in the absence of the Fc portion of the immunoglobulin G molecule, suggesting that complement-independent, cell-independent neutralization is the major mechanism of clearance.
متن کاملComparison of corticosteroids for treatment of respiratory syncytial virus bronchiolitis and pneumonia in cotton rats.
Triamcinolone acetonide, methylprednisolone, and dexamethasone were each evaluated in combination with palivizumab (Synagis) for the therapy of established respiratory syncytial virus infection in the cotton rat. Triamcinolone and methylprednisolone proved to be more effective than dexamethasone in reducing lung pathology. No recurrence of viral replication or pulmonary pathology followed the c...
